Year 6 | 7 Transition

Primary School Liaison

Kings International College works closely with our local feeder primary schools and, throughout the year, we aim to schedule a variety of activities to enable primary schools to visit us as part of further raising our profile in the local community.

Activities include:

  • Assembly slots in our Primary Schools for Year 6 students with a Q&A session led by the ex-pupils of the Primary School.
  • Primary School Lessons – usually for years 5 and 6 – offered to key feeder primary schools. Students visit KIC with their teachers, for a lesson taught by our teachers.
  • Primary School Support – as subject specialists, our teachers go out to our feeder schools to teach students and/or train staff.
  • Enterprise Days – Year 5 students from local primary schools are invited to visit KIC for a full day of cross-curricular activities based on a single theme. We expect 100 - 120 year 5 students per day, with a number of departments leading and supporting the activities. Feedback from previous days has been excellent.
  • From September 2018 Kings will offer more opportunities to primary schools, with seasonal activities planned pre-Christmas, pre-Easter and in the summer term
  • STEM Activities – these will be organised throughout the year.

Primary School Liaison is a crucial part of our strategy to recruit increasing numbers of students into year 7, and the support of staff is very much appreciated.

Year 6 Transition
KIC has established a Year 6 transition programme that supports young people in reducing anxiety.  Activities include:

  • A visit to their primary school by a member of the pastoral team
  • Meet and greet extra transition sessions for anxious students and those with SEN.
  • SENCO attends the annual review prior to joining Kings and meets with families of children with statements
  • Tour with the child’s TA and a Kings’ TA. The private tour allows students to become familiar with the school and there is an opportunity to take photographs of the site and rooms to help with anxiety
  • KIC TA will visit the primary school to work with the student’s TA and gain a better understanding of how to support him/her.

Two transition days in July where students meet their new tutor group and have a number of lessons and a group House activity.
