Learning from Home
When planning our home learning support, we have taken into account the different scenarios that we are potentially going to be faced with as a result of COVID-19. For each of these scenarios, we are seeking to strike a balance between a high quality learning experience and the challenges faced when teaching or learning from home.
Please note that if children are unwell, they are not expected to complete school work or join Microsoft Teams lessons.
If your child usually has the support of a TA during lessons they will do their best to make themselves available to support them remotely.
Your child needs to have internet connection and a working device e.g. laptop, tablet or mobile phone so that they can
- Log in and use with confidence Microsoft Teams.
- Access their College email in order to accept lesson invites.
- Find a calendared lesson and join Teams lessons.
- Be a member of every Teams lesson for every subject being delivered.
- Access resources and work in the Files section of their Team e.g. 10C PE/1 2020-21.
- Access Office365 in order to complete, save and share work.

The drop down tabs provide information on how students can access work if they are
- Self-isolating i.e. they are not part of any larger bubble isolating ‘together’.
- Self-isolating and are part of a larger bubble of students forced to self-isolate.
- Not isolating but have been directed to stay at home and learn remotely due to school closure (the result of a decision made by the Government or the Headteacher on the grounds of public health).
My child is self-isolating at home and are not part of any larger bubble of students forced to self-isolate.
- If your child is well enough then they should be doing school work every day they are absent from school. They should aim to follow their normal school timetable each day and can access work in the Microsoft Teams ‘Team’ that they are a member of e.g. 10C Pe/1 2020-21. If for any reason they cannot access this Team please email [email protected] .
- The work set by the subjects may or may not follow the work being done in class. It is designed to be flexible and accessible to children learning remotely at home. Examples include: self-guided online lessons with feedback built in throughout; worksheets with questions and answers; or extracts from a textbook with some suggested tasks.
- Due to the increased levels of student absence it is not always possible for teachers to give feedback on the work done during self-isolation. Please understand that their priority must be teaching the children in school and it is unreasonable to expect them to do both.
- We need your support as parents to ensure that your child is completing work each day and would ask you to monitor this by talking to them regularly and asking to see the work they have done. We appreciate that it may be difficult to motivate them at times and suggest that you keep conversations as positive as possible by taking an interest in and praising what they have done rather than highlighting what they haven't done.

- The students will be expected to log on to Microsoft Teams, access their lesson (or meeting) and be on time. This provides structure and routine but it will also enable their class teacher to communicate the expectations for that lesson. Depending on the lesson / work required your child may or may not be expected to stay on Teams for 45 minutes.
- Your child's Outlook calendar (that is accessible on their device or by logging on to Office365) will be populated with individual Teams links for registration and for each period of the day – you can access a brief 'how to' video here that shows you and your child how they can join a Microsoft Teams lesson.
- We would ask you to support your child by ensuring that they
- Have a quiet place to work each day.
- Can access the internet.
- Are able to find the Microsoft Teams links on their calendar.
- Have all the equipment that they need (exercise books, pens, charged device etc.)
