School Prospectus

Prospectus

Welcome to Kings International College

Kings is a small, friendly 11 to 16 school that is committed to providing an inspirational and exceptionally caring community for the young people who choose to come here.

We want our students to:

  • Develop the attitudes, characteristics and self-belief to tackle any challenges in future life.
  • Enjoy their time at school and be recognised as individuals.
  • Form good relationships and long-lasting friendships from amongst a diverse range of peers.
  • Acquire the skills, commitment and resilience to become successful, independent life-long learners.
  • Take responsibility for their own learning, collaborate effectively with others and have opportunities to develop leadership skills.
  • Receive recognition and praise for their efforts and achievements in all areas of school life.
  • Contribute actively to the school and wider community.
  • Accept hard work and discipline as requirements for success.

We have high expectations of our students and we encourage them to share our values of integrity, respect, responsibility, community and aspiration.

Curriculum

As they settle into secondary school life, Years 7 and 8 students are mainly taught in mixed ability groupings across a broad range of subjects. In Year 9, students can choose to continue to study either French or German in addition to opting for two subjects from Art, Music, Drama and Dance.

Kings students start their GCSE courses in Year 10 and they can study up to ten qualifications including BTECs (vocational courses). Our young people are at the heart of the options process and are fully supported in choosing 4 subjects that they wish to study in addition to the core curriculum.

The curriculum is also enriched by well-established links with both Wellington College and Surrey University and for more able students there are opportunities to attend masterclasses in a variety of subjects.

Pastoral Care

We recognise the importance of outstanding pastoral care in ensuring students’ academic success, and from September 2019 we moved to a Head of Year system. The Head of Year is supported by an extensive team of qualified specialists all of whom are working to ensure that our young people have the best of care should they need it. All students benefit from personal, social, health education (PSHE) which includes timetabled lessons and five special personal development days throughout the year. Kings staff believe that good communication between school and home is essential and we encourage parents to work with us to ensure that all children are as happy and successful as possible in their time here.

Learning beyond the classroom

An enjoyable range of opportunities is on offer to Kings students outside the classroom to help them challenge themselves and gain valuable life skills. For instance, we organise many sporting activities and we are proud of our facilities which include a 3G pitch and swimming pool.

We also have an outstanding reputation for the Performing Arts and all students can be part of our annual extravaganza called Celebrating the Arts. There are also opportunities to see shows in London, visit galleries, take part in expeditions, go up The Shard, see science in action and many other extra-curricular activities which will hopefully make the experience of being a student at Kings more memorable and treasured into adult life.
