Who we are Miss F. Foltzer Mrs C. Azoula Mrs P. Smith About Modern Foreign Languages The intent of MFL is to promote knowledge and understanding of foreign language and culture for all. MFL incorporates a variety of engaging strategies and up to date pedagogy creating an inclusive environment, developing each student's skills and knowledge as well as instilling fun and a love of languages! Past and present opportunities have involved studying foreign language songs and films, themed personal development days, competitions, a Languages club and a foreign language magazine produced by gifted and talented students. KS3 In year 7, students study French. From year 8 students continue to study French and have the opportunity to learn German as well. Students who have English as an additional language, in discussion with their teacher, can look towards completing an examination in their first language where possible at KS4. GCSE - French Examination Board: AQA Specification Code 8658 Course Outline: This GCSE course will help you develop a better understanding of both written and spoken French. It will introduce you to French culture and society, giving you the confidence you need to travel and to explore the world. You will learn that a language is much more than simply a sequence of words. You will be encouraged to form your own opinions and will learn how to express them in French. At the end of the course you will be able to cope in real situations, to ask for information, book hotels and talk about real issues, such as drugs and the environment. The topics covered are as follows:
Assessment: Unit 1: Listening - 25% exam only in Year 11 Unit 2: Speaking - 25% assessment carried out in Year 11 Unit 3: Reading - 25% exam only in Year 11 Unit 4: Writing - 25% exam only in Year 11 These units can be taken at either Foundation or Higher tier. The tier of entry will be decided by you and your teacher based on continual assessment of both class work and homework and your performance in the Mock examinations. Students must enter all four skills at the same tier.
