The team hopes to give students the opportunity and skills to understand the huge challenges that exist globally using a wide range of investigative skills. We hope that our students become thoughtful and enquiring citizens that are globally and environmentally informed. Our team of geography teachers at Kings International hope that we can inspire the young minds of today to help make changes for the better tomorrow. We all have a part to play with the future of our planet. KS3 The geography curriculum covers a range of topics and skills with regards to the modern world in which we live today. The broad range of content and transferrable skills will give students a fundamental general knowledge that can be used as a foundation for all future courses. GCSE Examination Board: Eduqas WJEC Specification Code C111QS Course Outline: Geography is a Humanities subject but requires some Maths and Science skills. It is suitable for students of all abilities. It teaches skills and knowledge that universities and employees value because they are transferable to a wide range of areas. Many career opportunities arise directly from the study of Geography, for example, Travel & Tourism, Business Management, Surveying, Construction, Planning, Architecture and Design. Resources including maps, visual media, IT and fieldwork are used to deliver the course. The key reason for studying Geography is to learn about our global environment and to consider the impact of humans with a particular focus on the human and physical environment of the UK. Assessment: Component 1: Changing Physical and Human Landscapes Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes 35% of qualification Section A: Core Themes Theme 1 (Landscapes and Physical Processes) and Core Theme 2 (Rural-urban Links). Some questions will require extended responses. Section B: Options One structured question (from a choice of two) assessing either Theme 3 (Tectonic Landscapes and Hazards) or Theme 4 (Coastal Hazards and their Management). These themes provide additional breadth of study for the content assessed in the core themes. Component 2: Environmental and Development Issues Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes 35% of qualification Section A: Core Themes Theme 5 (Weather, Climate and Ecosystems) and Core Theme 6 (Development and Resource Issues). Some questions will require extended responses. Section B: Options One structured question (from a choice of two) assessing either Theme 7 (Social Development Issues) or Theme 8 (Environmental Challenges). These themes provide additional depth of study for the content assessed in the core themes. Component 3: Applied Fieldwork Enquiry Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes 30% of qualification A written examination in three parts using a variety of structured data response questions, some of which will require extended responses. Part A will assess approaches to fieldwork methodology, representation and analysis. Part B will assess how fieldwork enquiry may be used to investigate geography's conceptual frameworks. Part C will assess the application of broad geographical concepts to a wider UK context and assess the ability to make and justify a decision. |
